National Recovery Month 2024
For the month of September, the Hogg Foundation is celebrating National Recovery Month. Throughout the month we’ll be highlighting the creativity, resilience, and leadership of people in recovery from mental and substance use conditions, and the many things our grantee partners are doing to transform mental health in their communities.
Humanly Possible
In celebration of National Recovery Month, RecoveryPeople is hosting a film premiere and fundraising event on September 19, 2024. The event includes the first look at the inspiring documentary, Humanly Possible, a panel discussion, silent auction, and heavy hors d’oeuvres. This film was produced with support from the Hogg Foundation.

From Struggle to Strength: Exploring Journeys of Recovery
For Episode 165 of the podcast, we explore the theme of “From Struggle to Strength.” In the first segment we sat down with Jason Howell, CEO of RecoveryPeople, a grantee partner of the Hogg Foundation, for a look behind the scenes of the film, Humanly Possible, and what it teaches about the power of voices of recovery. For the second segment, we look at our theme through the lens of Dr. Hannah Szlyk’s eye-opening research on youth suicide. Dr. Szlyk was awarded the Moore Fellowship by the Hogg Foundation in 2017.
2024 Stephany J. Bryan Scholarships
The Stephany June Bryan Spirit of Achievement Scholarship was created in honor of Stephany J. Bryan (1956-2021), the late Hogg Foundation senior program officer and consumer & family liaison. It provides financial support to persons with a mental health challenge and/or caring for a person with a mental health challenge currently pursuing advanced education or training. Congratulations to the 2024 winners!
National Suicide Prevention Month
September is also National Suicide Prevention Month, and the World Health Organization recognizes September 10 as World Suicide Prevention Day. Below we offer some content from our archive related to this challenging topic.
