Funding Strategy

We remain committed in our funding strategy to supporting community-level change while deepening our focus on learning, innovation, and partnership to advance mental well-being throughout the state. In an increasingly complex landscape, we recognize the need for flexibility in funding and strategic collaboration. By leveraging our partnerships, we aim to amplify our impact, strengthen access to care, and promote transformative and upstream solutions.

We do not accept unsolicited proposals.

Our Approach

Hogg Foundation staff have identified critical areas in which the foundation’s funds could have a significant impact. Our focus areas are the product of strategic planning and in alignment with our vision, mission, and values.

We use a competitive application and selection process. Our grant, scholarship, and fellowship applications are reviewed through an ethical process to ensure the greatest results. We publicize open opportunities on our website, in news releases, on social media, and by email in a timely manner.

Funding decisions based on the merit of proposals received. A rating instrument is used to evaluate proposals and identify a subset for possible funding. A committee reviews the merits of each proposal. Each initiative is assigned to a project lead who is responsible for day-to-day management, including communication and coordination with grantee partners and other recipients.

To avoid conflicts of interest, our staff do not accept phone calls regarding applications. The foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals. All other questions must be submitted to our grants management team.

Strategic Focus Areas

Our work reflects our dedication to adapting, learning, and collaborating to create lasting improvements in mental health across Texas communities. Because of this, our grants are focused in the following areas:

Who We Fund

We limit our grant awards to Texas-based nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations. Universities, state and local government agencies, mental health, social service, and public policy organizations are eligible to apply for most grants. Individuals who reside in Texas are funded through our scholarships and fellowships. Read more about grant eligibility on initiative webpages and grant application FAQs.

Texas Grants Resource Center

Texas Grants Resource Center (TGRC), as a part of the foundation, serves as a bridge between the grant-seeking and the grant-making communities, providing information, training, and technical assistance for both nonprofit organizations and individuals. TGRC staff cannot asssist with Hogg Foundation grant proposals.
