Vision, Mission, and Values
For all people in Texas. Our Vision
The Hogg Foundation’s long-term vision is for all people in Texas to thrive in resilient communities that support mental health and well-being.
Our Mission
It is our mission to support Texas communities’ capacity to advance mental health in everyday life.

Core Values
We are guided in large part by Ima Hogg’s vision for a Texas that supports and promotes mental health and well-being. Miss Ima was ahead of her time in believing that mental health was just as important as physical health. She believed all people should have access to community-based resources to support mental well-being and live fulfilling lives. She championed supports for mental health and well-being in everyday environments like schools, workplaces, places of worship, and homes.

“While we were interested in mental illness, our greatest interest was in the preventive side of the problem. I feel that the illness itself is a medical problem and the foundation should emphasize mental health while cooperating wherever possible.”
We remain committed to Miss Ima’s vision. The core values that guide our actions and decisions include:
Respect
- Valuing and respecting all voices.
- Honoring the unique, individual, and collective experiences that impact mental health.
- Promoting a supportive workplace, centered on trust and mutual respect.
Integrity
- Striving to conduct our work with honesty, aiming to address all situations with high moral and ethical standards.
- Doing what we believe is right, guided by evidence-based research and community-informed perspectives.
- Recognizing that we must continuously reflect on our work and adapt strategies based on what we learn from our grant partners and the broader community.
Collaboration
- Valuing all contributions to reach common goals, through effective communication and sharing ideas, resources, and responsibilities.
- Working with communities to understand their unique needs and identify areas for greater learning and awareness.
- Co-creating solutions alongside the communities we support.
- Partnering with other funders to increase impact.
Trust
- Providing clarity in our expectations, decision-making processes, and funding priorities.
- Valuing the expertise of our grant partners, community leaders, and people with direct experience with mental health challenges, striving to fully involve them in conversations about needs, challenges, and solutions.
- Inviting grant partners to help identify priorities, shape funding strategies, inform decisions, and reach common goals.
- Understanding that building trust and creating meaningful change requires time, strong relationships, and deep commitment.
Impact
- Improving the mental health landscape at the research, policy, practice, community, and systems levels.
- Stewarding our resources to maximize the impact on mental health, resilience, and well-being.
- Promoting impact through all of our activities, including grantmaking, convening, research, thought leadership, organizational learning, and policy.
