Here’s a snapshot of the presentations made, events hosted, and honors received by the talented and dedicated staff of the Hogg Foundation during the month of November 2025.
Alison Mohr Boleware, director of policy, and Jason Castillo, policy program specialist, provided a Legislative Session Summary presentation to school districts, law enforcement, and other stakeholders at the 2nd Annual Bexar County Area School Safety and Mental Health Summit in San Antonio.
Jason also hosted a webinar titled, “Providing Comments on the HHSC Legislative Appropriations Request.”
Dr. Kelley Glover, post-doctoral research fellow, presented two landscape analyses at the Hogg Foundation’s Western Summit on Health Equity and Older Adults, “Clinical Trials and Older Adults,” and “Participatory Arts and Health Humanities Models in Clinical Trial Recruitment and Retention Rates of Older Adults.”
Kelley also attended the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) Conference. She presented two co-authored book chapters that will be published by Routledge in 2026 and co-led an interactive session titled “Employing Healing Rituals as Praxis in Educational Leadership.” UCEA is a consortium of higher education institutions committed to advancing the preparation and practice of educational leaders for the benefit of schools and children.
Dr. Octavio N. Martinez, Jr., executive director, Jessica Arons, executive assistant, Maddie Garza, policy fellow, and Kelley Glover, post-doctoral research fellow, planned and convened the Western Summit on Health Equity and Older Adults. This one-day event, funded by a grant from the Commonwealth Fund, focused on advancing equitable approaches to aging across the Western region and brought together leaders from health systems, community organizations, philanthropy, and academia to explore policy alignment, cross-sector partnerships, and emerging best practices.
Dr. Martinez also attended the American Public Health Association annual meeting at the School of Global Health at Meharry Medical School. The event included a panel discussion and reception celebrating the release of Mental Health Equity, the first comprehensive textbook exploring the systemic and structural drivers of mental health outcomes coauthored by Dr. Martinez, Daniel E. Dawes, JD, DHL, and Nelson J. Dunlap, JD.
