Here’s a snapshot of the presentations made, events hosted, and honors received by the talented and dedicated staff of the Hogg Foundation during the month of March 2026.
Jason Castillo, policy program specialist, hosted students from Rice University as part of their Alternative Spring Break Program, Beyond the Bars: The Public Health Crisis in Our Justice System. As part of this program, Elizabeth Stauber, archivist and records manager, discussed her Dialogues on Mental Health Records project, in which she detailed the challenges of managing historical public mental health records.
Amy Loar, administrator of the Texas Grants Research Center, presented a training on finding nonprofit grant opportunities to the Nonprofit Management and Strategy class taught by Dr. Francie Ostrower at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs.
Octavio N. Martinez, Jr., executive director, attended the American Psychiatric Association Spring Leadership Summit and presented at summit sessions focused on leadership and advancing mental health policy and practice, including “Redlining and the Structural Conditions of Mental Health Equity.” In addition, Dr. Martinez participated in an editors’ panel that featured his recently published book, Mental Health Equity, co-authored with Daniel E. Dawes and Nelson J. Dunlap.
Rick Ybarra, senior program officer, was a featured speaker at the New Braunfels/Comal County Behavioral Health Leadership Team meeting, hosted by McKenna Foundation, a private philanthropic foundation dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Comal County residents. He also visited with foundation leadership for a funder-to-funder conversation to offer philanthropic insights and vision. Established by McKenna Foundation, the Behavioral Health Leadership Team is comprised of twenty-nine agencies united in vision and purpose and committed to bringing issues of mental and behavioral health to the forefront.
