Alison Mohr Boleware, director of policy, Jason Castillo, policy program specialist, and Maddie Garza, policy fellow, taught an advocacy workshop to students of a Public Health in Practice class taught by Dr. Heather Clark at Texas A&M University. Clark is a member of the Rural Impact through Support and Evaluation (RISE) Learning Community and Evaluation Team for the foundation’s upcoming Strengthening the Mental Health of Rural and Rural Border Communities grant initiative. Alison also hosted a panel titled, “From Surviving to Thriving: Who Will It Take to Build Recovery-Ready Communities Across Texas?” for the Texas Coalition for Healthy Minds 2025 Mental Health and Substance Use Summit 

Vicky Coffee

Vicky Coffee, director of foundation initiatives, was a panelist at the Alliance for Greater Work’s “Sustaining the Work – Faith-Based Mental Health Resources for Churches event, a powerful conversation featuring funders who shared practical guidance, opportunities, and strategies to help churches connect with foundations and funders.   

Kelley Glover, post-doctoral research fellow, presented a virtual seminar“Music and Emotions: How To Make Shift Happen”, texplore the intersection of music and emotional well-being. The event was hosted by the Veteran Spouse Network of the UT Austin Institute for Military and Veteran Family Wellness. 

Tammy Heinz

Tammy Heinz, senior program officer and consumer and family and liaison, served as one of three panelists with lived experience during a discussion at the Texas Coalition for Healthy Minds’ 2025 Mental Health and Substance Use Summit. Funded in part by the Hogg Foundation, the summit featured a full day of dynamic panels, expert insights, and meaningful networking focused on behavioral and mental health policy.

 

Karen Huynh, graduate research assistant in archives, presented the findings of her research exploring the 1990 Mental Health of Immigrants and Refugees Conference hosted by the Hogg Foundation.  

Octavio Martinez

Dr. Octavio N. Martinez, Jr., executive director, attended the 18th annual International Conference on Aging in the Americas. Focusing on the theme, Growing Burdens and Emerging Solutions, this year’s meeting explored both barriers and facilitators to managing chronic disease. Dr. Martinez participated in a panel discussion entitled “Sources of Vulnerability and Resilience, Exposomes, and the Consequences for Retirement Health and Financial Wellness”, and presented a paper entitled “Health Equity, Aging, and the Exposome.”
