This webinar will provide information to advocates and professionals who work with victims about the lethality of strangulation in domestic violence assaults, the critical importance of providing medical assis-tance, even when no visible injuries are present, and how to identify possible indicators of strangulation injuries. 

As a result of this training, participants will be able to: 

• Identify signs and symptoms of strangulation. 

• Recognize the lethality of strangulation in domestic violence. 

• Describe the risk factors for victims of attempted strangula-tion.

BIO

Ken Shetter is the president of One Safe Place, a crime and violence prevention collaborative serving all of Tarrant County, Texas. The One Safe Place Family Justice Center, recognized as one of the most effec-tive and comprehensive programs of its kind, serves thousands of victims of domestic violence and their children each year. Mr. Shetter is a member of the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention’s Legal/Law Enforcement Committee. He has completed the Institute’s Advanced Training for Communities Seeking to Implement Best Practices as well as the Institute’s Masters Course on the topic. Mr. Shetter is the Mayor of Burleson, Texas 

Mr. Shetter earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from Baylor University, a master’s degree in Applied Sociology from The American University in Washington, D.C., and a juris doctor from Baylor University Law School.
