In a powerful show of support for men’s mental health, the City of Pflugerville has awarded a formal proclamation to the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health in recognition of Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. The proclamation, presented at the June 24 Pflugerville City Council meeting, was accepted by Dr. Octavio N. Martinez, Jr., executive director of the foundation.
The proclamation highlights the foundation’s continued efforts to advance mental health and well-being for all Texans, with a growing focus on addressing the unique challenges that men face in accessing mental health care. The City of Pflugerville joins a national movement to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote help-seeking among men and boys.
“It’s vital to bring attention to the mental well-being of our community members, and we are committed to raising awareness about the mental health challenges many men face. Too often, people suffer in silence and are afraid to speak up. We want to change that,” said Pflugerville Mayor Victor Gonzales. “This proclamation reinforces our city’s commitment to fostering open dialogue, reducing stigma, and encouraging support and resources for those in need.”
Dr. Martinez commended Pflugerville city leaders for their leadership and urged other municipalities to take similar steps in fostering open dialogue around mental well-being.
“We are deeply honored to receive this proclamation,” said Dr. Martinez. “Men’s mental health is too often overlooked, and the cost of silence—lost lives, broken families, and unrealized potential—is staggering. We must change the narrative so that strength includes vulnerability and seeking help is seen as courageous, not shameful.”
