Grantee Partner Communications Toolkit

Tips and resources for sharing the news of your work.

We’ve created this communications toolkit to help you share information about your organization through social media, local print and broadcast news, and internal newsletters. Using communications tools strategically and efficiently can help you connect with a wide audience, garner support for your work, and advance your goals.

When referring to the foundation, the full name of our organization is “Hogg Foundation for Mental Health” and should be used as the first mention. Any subsequent references in articles and other publications can read “Hogg Foundation” or “the foundation.”

Social Media

Social media is an easy, free way to stay connected with your community, share the impact of your work, promote events, and recruit volunteers, partners, and/or donors.

Including additional hashtags related to your organization, such as #mentalhealth, #rural, #border, #community, #resilience, #wellness, #yourtownsname can also increase the reach of your posts.

Please remember to tag the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health in your posts so that we can share them as well.

Press Releases

A press release is a statement of newsworthy information sent to journalists and reporters with the goal of motivating them to share your news with a wider audience.

You can build a list of media contacts by visiting the websites of local newspapers, TV stations, and radio stations. Look under Staff, About Us, Contact, or byline links to find reporters’ names and emails. A search on Linkedin is also a good way to find media contacts in your area.

Newsletters

Your organization’s blog or newsletter is another great way to share your news with partners, donors, and your local community. You can easily re-use the press release language and the social media images you’ve already put together.

Images and Graphics

Including photographs and other visual images in communications materials is a powerful way to draw attention to your news and stories. Photography and graphics used in communications should reflect your core values, branding, and be relevant to the subject matter. Here are a few free of charge image websites:

Talking Points

Talking points are brief statements used to communicate key messages about your work or your organization. Prepared ahead of time and shared among stakeholders, they are useful for interviews, public gatherings, and meetings to help speakers concisely share a consistent message.
