Here’s a snapshot of the presentations made, events hosted, and honors received by the talented and dedicated staff of the Hogg Foundation during the month of June 2026.
Jason Castillo, policy program specialist, Maddie Garza, program associate, and Tammy Heinz, senior program officer and consumer and family liaison, participated in a Funders Roundtable on Capacity Building hosted by Methodist Healthcare Ministries. Convening more than 50 funders from across Texas, the event brought together diverse voices to engage in meaningful dialogue around capacity building.
Jason also presented to the Mental Health Connection of Tarrant County and the Texas Association of School Psychologists. Both presentations focused on providing guidance on mental health policy and Texas legislative processes.
Tammy also helped organize a Hogg Foundation-hosted Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Advanced Level Facilitator training and recertification opportunity. WRAP is an evidence-based, peer-developed wellness and recovery practice recognized by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
Kelley Glover, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, attended the annual Grantmakers for Effective Organizations National Conference (GEO). Held in partnership with Philanthropy Massachusetts, the event focused on transforming philanthropic culture and practice by exploring effective grantmaking in service of nonprofits and alongside communities leading equity-informed social change.
Tammy Heinz, senior program officer and consumer and family liaison, and Rick Ybarra, senior program officer, participated in the Global Leadership Exchange (GLE) to explore the theme, Ideas to Action: Inspiring Leaders to Mobilize Collective Solutions. Creating space for sharing ideas, knowledge, and best practices, the GLE regularly connects leaders in mental health, disability, substance use and addictions.
Dr. Octavio N. Martinez, Jr., executive director, together with Jason Castillo, policy program specialist, presided over the closing ceremonies for the Hogg Foundation’s Mental Health Policy Fellow and Policy Academy initiative. Launched in 2010, the initiative served as a learning community for policy fellows, peer policy fellows, and mentors, providing professional development opportunities on topics such as the basics of the legislative process, the state’s budget, and issue-specific presentations from experts in the field.
