April 2026 Staff Highlights

Here’s a snapshot of the presentations made, events hosted, and honors received by the talented and dedicated staff of the Hogg Foundation during the month of April 2026.

Vicky Coffee, director of foundation initiatives, participated in a panel discussion at the film screening of “The Blind Stigma: Mental Health within the Black Community” at the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAACAM). SAACAM is a nonprofit organization with the mission to collect, preserve, and share the history and cultural heritage of African descendants in San Antonio and the Southwestern region. The Blind Stigma is an award-winning documentary that addresses mental health within the Black community in Canada shedding light on a topic often shrouded in silence.

Kelley Glover, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, led a somatic drumming circle event, for volunteer workers at Capital City Village, an Austin-based nonprofit dedicated to helping seniors age in place.

Kelley also led a workshop for military and veteran spouses, Exploring Wellness Through Music and Storytelling in her capacity as a Veteran Spouse Network Peer Leader. Blending the science of sound with the art of storytelling, the workshop offered participants practical techniques to calm the nervous system and connect through shared musical experiences.

Dr. Octavio N. Martinez, Jr., executive director, attended Trust for America’s Health (TFAH) board meeting in Washington, DC in his capacity as board member. TFAH is a non-profit, non-partisan public health policy, research, and advocacy organization focusing on the antecedents of poor health and prevention.
