The Ima Hogg Children’s Mental Health Initiative is beginning its fourth year under the leadership of program officer Vicky Coffee-Fletcher, and we are seeing positive results from the organizations selected by the Hogg Foundation to do the important work of developing and providing quality mental health services to children and families in Houston and Harris County. The findings coming out of these programs make an important contribution to the base of knowledge regarding innovative interventions in children’s mental health. In the coming months, we will be posting summary reports to share these findings.

The summary report for the DePelchin Children’s Center’s Lazos Program has just been posted on the foundation’s evaluation web page. This program supports Latino children in the Spring Branch area of Houston who are survivors of trauma. The program utilizes a culturally modified version of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to meet the unique needs of this community. A goal of the program evaluation was to assess whether this modified version produced results similar to the original version, which is well supported by research evidence and has been found to be effective. We encourage you to read the report to find out more about the impact that the Lazos Program is having.

It is gratifying for us here at the foundation to hear that children’s lives are being positively impacted by the services funded by this grant. We look forward to sharing other results from Houston with you in the coming months.
